We had heard rave reviews of the Tattoo in Halifax, and although that had long passed, we are thrilled to find the Tattoo is also here in Quebec, and after much effort managed to secure two good seats. French over the phone wasn't working very well, so we finally drove out to the Pepsi Coliseum yesterday and secured a couple of tickets, after finding a couple of people who together, spoke some English. It is truly an awesome event. I managed to steal out a few photos to give you an idea. All I can say is GO!
It is amazing to hear these performances as the musicians are always in motion. Mind you, these are concert bands, not marching bands, so great effort went into this presentation. Several bands were present from Canada, and other countries represented included Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, and Austria, to name a few. Rogers and Hammerstein would be proud to know that The Sound of Music represented the country of Austria and received an astounding ovation, as did all the bands!
This picture of the finale, shows the white uniforms of the US Ceremonial Drill Team who gave a breath-taking demonstration of their skills.
In total, about 700 people contributed to this Tattoo (an old term for a military bugle call). As one band marched out, another marched in. The concert lasted for 3 hours with a twenty minute break in between. Only one word comes to mind: Awesome!
