Yesterday we relocated from Talkeetna to the Palmer Elks Lodge in Wasilla overlooking the lake. We will make this our base to see attractions in Anchorage. Although Anchorage is 43 miles to the south, all the RV parks are terrible! We'd rather drive the 80 mile plus round trip and have nice surroundings. So here we are today visiting the Anchorage Museum. This exquisite mask is one of the many native exhibits.
This photo shows the arch at the downtown visitor center. Anchorage is considered to be a big modern city, the largest in Alaska. I think the weather takes its toll on all infrastructure here. The streets and sidewalks look tired. The good news is downtown consists of only a few blocks, and we lucked out and found a free parking space just 3 blocks to the north.
With the long daylight hours, flowers are rampant, and the tuberous begonias are heaven!
The modern museum building together with the performing arts center (not shown) must be the pride of Anchorage.
The following pictures are taken through glass enclosed cases on the 3rd floor. The light is very low and no flash photograph is allowed. Each showcased beautiful works of art from various areas of indigenous people of Alaska. Since I didn't take copious notes as to which belongs to whom, I shall leave it to those interested to go to the museum website for further information. A link will be provided at the end of this post. Enjoy!
Having completed our visit to the Anchorage Museum, it's time for lunch. Here we visit the Glacier BrewHouse, an Anchorage favorite. It's a good thing I called and made a reservation. The place is packed from opening until closing time. Notice the andirons in the fireplace, made to look like Moose antlers - fun!
