Our 3 night stay at Tok allowed those who wished to, to drive up to Chicken, Alaska. A very small community also accessed from Dawson City, YT across the Top of the World Highway, a 62 mile dirt road wonder we chose not to drive with Popeye. Taking the Jeep up to Chicken on the Taylor Highway, a good paved road, is no problem and provided some interesting scenery.
Yes, that's the road to Chicken, going seemingly forever! Chicken is about 65 miles north of Tok, but it seems to take an awfully long time to get there.
Hey, we're here - beautiful downtown Chicken! Take a look:
The sign above gives some history of Chicken. Originally, the name of the town was to be after the Alaskan state bird, the Ptarmigan. No one was certain how to spell it - hope my spelling stands correct!
Notice how they make Chickens out of everything! Gold was the attraction in this part of the US as well as the Yukon.
It takes a great sense of humor to live up here!
This is what your rig and tow look like after driving the Top of the World Highway. Anyone care to guess what color this car really is? I didn't have the heart to ask. After our arrival in Tok, we washed Popeye 3 times and the Jeep twice to get a resemblance of clean!
Okay - enough of Chicken! It will be good to get back to civilization - no disrespect intended. It's just that I really prefer indoor plumbing; but this is before we get to Fairbanks and find out how some people really live in the land of -40 degrees f!

What a marvelous experience you guys are having. Dirt, outdoor lack of plumbing, and rough roads not withstanding.
