Part of the National Parks system of Canada, the S.S. Klondike is a National Historic Site and well worth a visit.
Out tour starts on the cargo deck which also houses the boiler, fuel, and piping for turning the big paddle wheel. Our beautiful french speaking tour guide show us the route used: From Whitehorse to Dawson City. Other boats served the remaining areas of the Klondike River.
The passenger deck housed the dining hall and state rooms for first class passengers. The kitchen and small dining area for 2nd class passengers are also on this deck. Second class passengers slept on cots located on the cargo deck, along with horses and whatever else the cargo consisted of. First class passage was definitely preferable, but cost about a month's wages.
Bob climbed up to the wheelhouse and took these pictures. At this point, the rain is pouring down.
