Our long anticipated visit to Denali National Park is beginning. Our first stop is at the Visitor Center, then it's over to the Wilderness Access Center to purchase bus tickets.
Denali NP is one of the true wilderness parks. This means very limited access. Unlike most other parks we have been to, there are almost no hiking trails beyond the entrance and the last point where you can drive your car; at the 15 mile marker. Denali encourages you to strike out on your own, not make obvious trails, and to be gentle to the environment.
There is but one road into the park. After the 15 mile marker, you can only travel by bus, bicycle or foot. Bus tickets can sell out fast, and although this is Saturday, our first bus ticket is on Monday for a discovery hike with one of the park rangers, and on Tuesday, out to Wonder Lake.
These pictures are sights available to us on the first 15 miles and back. The last picture is far from Denali, but the mountain range we see driving east towards the park entrance and slightly to the south. What a beautiful sight!
